As the debate over health care issues heats up once more during political elections, people have another opportunity to communicate what is needed. The usual tired alternatives continue to be offered, along with some truly monumentally dangerous ideas that would have a devastating impact on people who are already struggling to make ends meet. A box of band aids is not enough to close these gaping wounds.
One direction being discussed is the possibility of making it a legal requirement for people to purchase health care insurance, similar to the laws already in place for car insurance or mortgage insurance. Moving in this direction is one of the most ignorant things our lawmakers could do to solve the current health care crisis. This move also demonstrates how insensitive some representatives in Washington are to the real needs of the people who are struggling with living in the United States.
